Internet Resources Guide
The sliding value of the U.S. dollar isn’t just a threat to the national economy, it’s a serious bummer for AdSense publishers, many of whom receive payments either in U.S. dollars or based on the dollar’s exchange rate.AdSense, an advertising platform owned by Google, works like this: When publishers sign up, they agree to let Google sell ads on their behalf. The revenue made from advertising is split between the publisher and Google.
Although Google cuts checks in local currencies to publishers in many major countries, those payments are converted from U.S. dollars. And since the dollar has dropped in value (last week it hit a record low against the euro) publishers’ income has plummeted. Hard. One publisher on Webmasterworld.com saw revenue drop 20 percent because of the decline of the dollar.
