Private Institutions Offering Fashion Design Courses

AVI School of Fashion and Shoe Technology, (SCO 493-94, Second Floor Sector 35-C Chandigarh): As the name suggests, the School offers both fashion and footwear design courses. In the area of Fashion Design and Technology; the courses are: (i) Apparel Merchandising and Marketing, (ii) Apparel Production Management, and (iii) Fashion Design and Clothing Technology. All the courses are of one year duration. Only Bachelor degree holders are eligible. AVI School also offers courses in leather garments and footwear designs: (i) leather garment design and technology (two years), (ii) shoe production (two years), and (iii) shoe designing and pattern cutting technology (one year). The entry requirement for the first two courses is a bachelor degree, while 10+2 for the third course.

Pearl Academy of Fashion (C-56/2, Okhla Industrial Area, Phase II, New Delhi-110020): At present it offers the following courses both at its Okhla and Naraina campuses: (a) Postgraduate Programmes: (i) Apparel Merchandising and Production Management (1 ½ years), (ii) Integrated Fashion Technology (2 years), and (iii) Retail Management (1 ½ years), (b) Undergraduate Programmes: (i) Fashion Design and Technology (3 ½ years), (ii) Clothing Management and Technology (3 ½ years). Besides, it also offers a Professional Diploma in Fashion and Web Design of two-year duration. The courses are offered in association with Nottingham Trent University (UK).

National Institute of Fashion Design (NIFD Campus, 2-B Jat Bhawan, M Marg, Sector 27-A Chandigarh. Website www.nifd.net: The Institute has opened 75 centres throughout the country and claims that among its franchisees are several well-known fashion designers. At present it offers two-year full time Advanced Diploma Programme in Fashion Design and Textile Design (Both with CAD). The courses are open to candidates who have completed 10+2 class studies. In addition, it offers part-time diploma courses in Fashion Design, Textile Design and Interior Design.

International Academy of Design (South Delhi Campus, E-291 Greater Kailash II, New Delhi-110048): Established in 1997, it offers three programmes: Fashion Design, Interior Design, Multimedia Design of two-year duration leading to Advanced Diploma. The Academy claims the association of several fashion designers with the organisation.

J D Institute of Fashion Technology (Andheri Centre, JD, Ruby Apartments, near Vishal Hall MV Road, Andheri (East) Mumbai-400069): The Institute is in the field for more than a decade. The programmes include Fashion Designing, Fashion Photography, Visual Merchandising and Jewellery Designing, Garment Manufacturing Technology. It has opened Centres in more than 10 cities.

Wigan & Leiggh College (Corporate Office: 401-402, Skipper Corner, 8 B, Nehru Place, New Delhi-110019): The Wigan & Leigh College is one of the oldest and largest further education institutions in UK with a worldwide reputation for quality education. Among the courses offered are Fashion Technology, Advertising and Graphic Design. It has now opened its centres in several Indian cities including Calcutta, Delhi and Mumbai. Courses in Fashion Technology and Advertising and Graphic Design are offered at two levels – undergraduate (open to 10+2 passed candidates) and postgraduate (open to degree holders in any discipline). Admissions are made on the basis of an aptitude test.

Appjay Institute of Design (54 Tughlakabad Institutional Area, Meherauli-Badarpur Road, New Delhi-110062): Offers (1) four-year Bachelor Course in Ceramic Design, Textile Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, and Interiorr Design. Eligibility: a pass in 10+2 examination with 45% marks in the aggregate. Admission is through an aptitude test. These courses are affiliated to the Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, (2) two-year Master Course in Design. Eligibility: Graduation in Fine Arts, Design or architecture. Admission is on the basis of portfolio presentation; and (3) Integrated Design course of two-year duration Eligibility: a pass in 10+2 examination with 45% marks. Admission is on the basis of an aptitude test.

IEC School of Art and Fashion (IEC House, M-92, Cannaught Place (Opp. Super Bazar), New Delhi) Offers courses in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Garment Manufacturing Technology, CAD (Apparel, Textile, Production), Jewellery Design, Interior Design.
