Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD)
Product Design, (ii) Furniture Design, (iii) Ceramic Design, (iv) Graphic Design, (v) Animation Film Design, (vi) Film & Video Communication, (vii) Textile Design, (viii) Exhibition Design and (ix) Integrated Programme in Textile and Apparel Design.
Duration: Four Years.
Eligibility: A pass in 10+2 examination. However, competence in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Drawing, Technical and related subjects is considered to be an advantage. Candidates should not have completed 22 years on June 1 of the year of the admission.
Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Design (PGDPD)
(i) Product Design, (ii) Furniture Design, (iii) Ceramic Design, (iv) Textile Design, (v) Apparel and Accessory Design, (vi) Animation Film Design, (vii) Film and Video Communication; and (viii) New Media.
Duration: *ERROR* years. High proficiency in drawing is a pre-requisite for entry into all the programmes. The maximum age is 25 years on June 1, of the year of the admission.
Eligibility:
Product Design: Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Architecture, Diploma Holders in Engineering or Architecture with at least 3 years relevant experience.
Furniture Design: Bachelor Degree in Architecture or Engineering, Interior, Fine Arts and Diploma holders in accessory design from NIFT, MDes from IITs. Three year diploma in these areas with at least three years relevant experience are also eligible.
Textile Design: Graduates in Fine Arts, Applied Arts Textile Technology, Textile Engineering, Textile Chemistry, Home Science (with Textile and Clothing), Diploma holders from NIFT in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or Accessory Design. MDes (Communication Design) of IITs. Candidates with three year diploma in any of these areas with at least 2 years relevant experience are also eligible.
Ceramic Design: Graduates in Fine Arts, Architecture, Engineering, and Ceramic Technology, and MDes from IITs. Diploma holders in these areas with at least 2 years relevant experience are also eligible.
Animation Film Design: Graduate and Diploma in Fine Arts as well as graduates in any other discipline with high proficiency in drawing and painting.
Film and Video Communication; and New Media. Admission to all these courses is made on the basis of an admission test held at five centres (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Mumbai and New Delhi). Post Diploma Programme in Design (PDPD)
This is a new addition to the programmes of NID which is comparable to the MPhil degree. There are three courses: (i) Interactive Media, a two year programme open to those with a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least one year’s design experience in the area of Multimedia. (ii) Accessory Design: An one-and-a-half year programme open to graduates or equivalent in Apparel, Textile, Product and Furniture Design. Those who possess a three-year diploma in Accessory and Fashion Design with at least one year’s experience are also eligible. (iii) Design For the Less Abled: This one-year programme is open to those holding a professional diploma/degree in design. The age limit for all the programmes is 30 years.
