Management
General: Admission to all the programmes of the IIMs are made on the basis of a Common Admission Test (CAT) held every year on the second Sunday of December at 20 centres. The admission announcements are made in August. Final selections are based on group discussion and interview. While all the IIMs offer the Postgraduate Programmes (PGP) in Management, IIM Ahemdabad, IIM Calcutta, and IIM (Bangalore) offer other programmes also as indicated below against their names. Eligibility requirement for admission to PGP in Management is a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline. The IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta and IIM Lucknow also offer Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) which is equivalent to Ph.D degree. (See below). Detailed information about all the programmes is provided in the CAT Bulletin which is obtainable from SNI branches listed in the admission advertisement. Candidates are required to buy only one CAT Bulletin irrespective of how many IIMs they are applying to. IIM Ahmedabad (Vastrapur, Ahmedabad-380015) – Programmes: PGP in Management, PGP-ABM and FPM. The PGP-Agri-Business Management, which replaced the Postgraduate Programme (Specialisation Package in Agriculture), is a programme specially designed for education and development of studies for professional careers in management related to the agriculture, food, rural and allied sectors of economy. Duration: 15 months. Eligibility: (a) Bachelor degree in agriculture or allied subjects or allied life sciences, or (b) Master’s degree in any discipline of agriculture, economics (agricultural economics), sociology, cooperation, food technology, rural studies, rural sociology. Allied life sciences, or (c) Bachelor degree holders in any discipline with at least one year of work experience after graduation in fields closely related to agriculture, agro or food-processing, rural development or allied activities. IIM Bangalore (Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore-560076) – Programmes: PGP in Management and FPM * IIM Calcutta (Joka, Post Box No.16757, Calcutta-700027) – Programmes: PGP in Management, PGP-DGDCM, PGP-PGDBM, and FPM. PGP-PGDCM: The programme leads to the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Management (PGDCM). Duration: Two years; Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics and Physics. The candidates are required to obtain a separate application on payment of a specified amount. The short listed candidates are required to appear in a separate Aptitude Test in Mathematics prior to group discussion and personal interview. PGP-PGDBM: The evening programme leads to the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM). Duration: Three years; Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least two years of experience in full-time job after graduation * IIM Indore (Rajendra Nagar, Indore-452012) – Programme: PGP in Management * IIM Kozhikode (C/o. Calicut Regional Engineering College, Kozhikode-673601) – Programme: PGP in Management * IIM Lucknow (Prabandh Nagar, Lucknow-236013) – Programme: PGP in Management. Scholarships and Financial AssistanceSubstantial need-based scholarships and assistance in getting educational loans are provided by all the IIMs particularly to economically weaker sections. In IIM Calcutta, no selected candidates is turned away if they are unable to pay tuition fees. Fellowship Programme in Management (FPM): The FPM programme at present offered by the four IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta and Lucknow) is a highly prestigious academic course in management. Though each Institute has specified its own entry requirements, the programme is generally open to holder of a Master’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks or qualified Chartered Accounts with 55% marks, or holders of first class Bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology with two years of working experience. Admission is based on the results of CAT and interviews. In IIM Calcutta holders of PGDM/PGDBM holders if IIMs with special CGPA are exempted from CAT. Selected candidates are provided with attractive financial support. For example, IIM Bangalore gives a stipend of Rs.60,000 to Rs.72,000 per year depending upon qualification and experience. Infosys Technologies Ltd., have instituted two fellowships amounting to Rs.25,000 per month at IIM Calcutta. Separate admission advertisements are published in major newspapers. However, detailed information is also given in the CAT Bulletin. The areas study vary from Institute to Institute. Some of the common ones are Economics, Sociology, Finance and Control, HRD, Industrial Relations and Organisational Behaviour, Computer and Information Technology, Marketing, Production and Operations Management.
