The
area of Film Industry is highly demandable from begining to till date.
Movies have always attracted youth from
across the length and breadth of our country. Many youth aspire to
find a place for themselves in the field of glamour and glitz. This
has been a case through successiveenerations. Film making at every
level, even for superstars involves long, gruelling hours, painstaking
effort, repetitive and monotonous task, and a great deal of standing
by, waiting for a 'call' sometimes they have to work in adverse weather
conditions. A number of different sectors operate independently within
the film industry. These include feature film, documentaries, newsreels,
corporate communication, advertising films, training films, public
interest communication etc. Among all film producing nations, India
is one of the most prolific countries, with over 800 features released
every year. The bulk of these come from the big studios in Bombay
and Madras. Regional cinema is also fairly active in each state, Bengal
and Kerala being the best known worldwide for their quantity, quality
and innovative kind of films.
Due to the highly specialized nature of most aspects of film making,
professional training is essential, particularly in technical areas
like cinematography, sound engineering, film processing and editing.
Formal training of some sort is also required for most design-related
areas in films. While skills in production, direction and acting,
are best developed through hands on experience, a course in filmmaking
can be of great benefit.
Apart form, mainstream cinema i.e. feature films, there are many different kinds of films made, like documentaries, newsreels, and advertising films. Filmmaking entails teamwork among people with varied skills. The number of people involved in making a particular film and their role and responsibilities would depend upon the type of film being made. For example making of a feature film would require a larger crew than a documentary. Educational Qualification:
There are a number of institutions in India, which offer courses in various aspects of film Making. Notable among them is the Film and Television Institute of India situated at Pune. Selection for these courses is through an aptitude test. Eligibility criterion for technical courses is generally 12Th pass with science. Duration depends on the course that one opts for and can be anywhere between one to three years. Most of the areas in film making are highly technical and therefore require professional training. Even for artists and directors, which are basically, creative fields requiring inherent talent, training helps in helping the skills. In areas like cinematography, sound engineering and editing professional training is essential.
