Libraries
are the greatest source of information. Libraries are the reservoir
of knowledge and information. It plays an outstanding role in providing
very useful information and imparts a great deal of informative knowledge.

cassettes and records - for education, research, reference and pleasure.

author etc. That's why a library needs to be preserved. A well-equipped
library should consists of not only books and periodicals but also

reference and pleasure. There are different kinds of libraries depending
upon the readership to which it is catering. Libraries are set up
by the government as well as amateur. The library especially set up
by the government is called Public library. Public libraries are set
up to serve the general public and may include mobile facilities.

Academic libraries are on the other hand part of an institution, and
used by its students, academic staff and research scholar's etc. There
are also specialist libraries that cater to a specific readership
and are attached to the research and academic institutions. Libraries

to be a librarian must be book lover.They should have great attachment
to books. The job of a librarian is to systematically catalogue, store,
and display the books and other printed material in a library. A good
librarian should have test of all kind of literature. So that they
feel tremendous comfort in keeping track of all the books stored in
that particular library. In the field of education and culture the
role of a librarian can be equated to that of a teacher or an educationist.
Educational
Qualification:
A person can start his career as a librarian without having any specific
degree relating to this field, however a degree in this area is prefrable.
Good communication skills, curiosity, interest in a variety of topics,
a methodical approach, accuracy, organising ability, retentive memory,
resourcefulness, interest in electronic information systems, capacity
to switch instantly from one subject to the next, ability to anticipate
user's need etc. A strong sense of current events and contemporary
themes is helpful to contribute to the direction of "library
culture" and programs held in the library. A sense of aesthetics
helps, too; it is not unusual for a librarian to design a library
exhibit. Those wishing to become school librarians must also complete
any teaching certifications required for teachers. Strong interpersonal
skills are required for those who hope to succeed in this field. Willing
person should undrego a Bachelor’s degree in library science
(B.Lib.Sc) which is offered as a one-year course after graduation
in any subject. A diploma or certificate course requires 10+2 in any
subject with a duration that can vary according to the program and
the institution conducting it. Postgraduate course, also of one-year
duration, is open for candidates who have bachelors’ degree
in the subject. One can pursue further studies and do M.Phil or PhD
in the subject.
