Apple was one of the first manufacturers to see the potential of touch screen handsets. With their new device, they have arguably changed the mobile phone industry, moving them away from just simply having the best; sharpest camera on the market; to now having something completely different.
The Touchscreen revolution has given the mobile phone user more interaction with their device. No longer do they have to use a navigation curser to select the option from a menu. Now, with their Touchscreen mobile phone, they can simply press the option or function they require.
This does, however present some of their own challenges. Some Touchscreen devices require of your actual finger to press the buttons. So on a cold, chilly day, you will have to take you hand out of your nice warm gloves and press the buttons. This isn’t the case with all, only with some and worth considering before buying.
Touchscreen mobile phones also allow for other improvements in mobile phone technology as a whole. As the screen is normally fairly large, taking over most of the front of the handset; the improvements in gaming becomes clear. Long gone are the days of the original “Snake” games on Nokia devices. Now, accelerometer sensor allows you to move the screen in order to move a character or drive a car in a particular way.
Imaging has also seen huge improvement. Most of the major manufacturers have aliened themselves with Imaging House, Nokia with Carl Zeiss, Sony Ericsson with Cybershot and Kodak to name a few. This has resulted in better and more advanced cameras now available to customers, they are even of the same or better quality of digital cameras available in stores. From the Nokia 6230i with its 1.3MP camera to the Samsung TL320 with its 12MP camera, the quality of the pictures on mobile phones has dramatically increased within the space of a few years.
While the iPhone has certainly been the benchmark for so many of the new Touch screen phones coming onto the market, it has still remained a very popular. The hefty price-tag when it was first launched on the market is testament to this. People wanted this phone! It was something new, cool and a big jump in technology from the usual small buttons under the small screen. The iPhone offered its customers the opportunity to personalise their handset. Apple hit upon yet another brilliant with the selling of applications on their iTunes format. Games, music makers; nearly anything you can think of can be downloaded onto your iPhone to be used at a later stage, passing the time with games you will enjoy and want to play.
Battery time on some of these phones can be seriously effected. Some of the handsets do love to eat your battery life. Their screens can be very sharp, which can be draining on the battery. Games and other functions do eat into the standby and talktime of a Touchscreen phone, making you charge it more often than a non-touchscreen phone.
Other leaps forward in technology have greatly improved the advantages of having a touchscreen phone. The introduction of 3G and Wi-Fi technology on more and more ranges, allows the user to effortlessly surf the net, choosing what they want to look at by simply clicking on it with their finger!
The mobile phone business has fast evolved into a sector that is fast changing, new developments and leap forwards in technology. From cameras to designs and now to touch screens and Wi-Fi, the simple mobile phone has come a long way in the past few years. Manufacturers have spotted that the use of touchscreen phones has a big market, with more and more handsets coming on stream supporting this technology.
